His intention is to share the message of God’s of love and grace through music in order to build unity, understanding, and acceptance while still encouraging personal responsibility, self-reliance, and the development of conviction and values. Along with a fun-filled musical experience of sharing and praising.
_______________________________________________________

Describe how you entered the independent gospel music industry?
Hmmm – hard to make a long story short… I didn’t plan to go into ministry. I think if I had, it probably wouldn’t have worked. I had recorded several secular CDs in the 1990s. Sometimes people would say to me after hearing my recordings, “you should sing Christian music” -- but “Christian music” to me meant hymns because the church I grew up in only had traditional and classical music. I didn’t want to sing that style, so I never paid any attention when people would encourage me to sing Christian music – even though they probably meant “contemporary” Christian music.

I didn’t know what contemporary Christian music was – I had barely even heard of Amy Grant, much less someone like Steven Curtis Chapman. Then in 2002 I started writing music that had Christian and Spiritual lyrics – not really on purpose – just what was coming out of me. I had no idea what I was going to do with this “pop” style Christian music. I thought that no one would want to hear it. Then a friend of mine invited me to sing at his church and do one of my new songs. I thought he was crazy, but he said his church liked “that kind of music”.

It opened up a whole new world to me of worship and praise music and contemporary rock and pop Christian music. So I released the CD, “Everything I Am” in 2003, still with really no idea what I was going to do with it. I was invited to sing at a couple of more churches, and thought, “well, maybe I’ll just visit a church every once-in-a-while and sing a few of these songs.” But within a few months, the opportunities to visit churches started coming more often and by the end of the year I was traveling more weekends than not. I had no idea what I was doing or how to do it, and now 8 years later, I still don’t know what I’m doing or how I’m doing it, but somehow it’s working and I’m loving every minute of it and I’m filled with gratitude and awe every step of the way.

I’m an openly gay, contemporary Christian singer/songwriter with a ministry that includes an outreach to the GLBT community. I visit churches, groups, and events hoping to share the Grace message of God’s Love, through concerts, workshops, and spoken message.

My middle name is “Aaron”. Actually my birth name was Aaron, and then I legally changed it to Shawn Aaron Thomas in the 90s. Before I was involved in music ministry, I had already set up “Aaron’s Rainbow Project” in order to self-publish songs and release recordings. Then as the music ministry grew, I named it “The Ministry of Aaron’s Rainbow Project (ARP)” as a way to be able to talk about the music ministry without directly talking about myself. I didn’t want to have “Shawn Thomas Ministries” because I didn’t want the focus to be on me, but on the outreach and message of the ministry.

Faith is a huge part of your music. Please tell us what Faith means to you.

Paul tells us in Romans that it is our Faith that makes us “righteous” or “right standing” in the eyes of God. The song “By Faith” that appears on the CD, “Worship & Desperation” is based on that concept.

I had a friend once explain to me that people often think of Faith as being the opposite of doubt – but that she believes the opposite of Faith is certainty. If you are certain of something, then you have no need for Faith because you already know everything for sure. If you have doubt, then you have to rely on Faith, because you don’t have certainty or proof. Pretty cool…

Please share with us who Shawn is as a child of God and what that image looks like? <![endif]-->
It has been three years since your last original album; in what ways have you seen yourself grow personally and musically?

It’s been a fun few years in getting to work with other artists in recording and production through Shawn Thomas Studios. I’ve had the chance to work on everything from country to hard rock to dance. You learn a lot working with other artists and how they create and play their own music. Obviously some of that rubs off and I find myself incorporating techniques, licks, and ideas that I picked up from other artists. What a cool thing!

Also since I’ve been touring most weekends of the year, I’ve become more confident on the guitar and playing live and even “unplugged” more than in years past. There’s a lot more guitar in the recording of “Covered and Created” than on previous CDs.

I think another thing that’s interesting as a songwriter or recording artist, is that when you release a “new” project – it’s new to everyone else, but for you a lot of the material is months or even years old because you’ve been working on it and getting it ready. In addition, up until the point of releasing a new project, you’ve been performing your previously “new” stuff, knowing that you actually have other “new” stuff that nobody can hear yet, because you’re still promoting your previous “new” stuff! Crazy, huh? I guess, my point is that when you hear an artist performing a “new” song, chances are that emotionally and even musically, they may have already moved on to another place with other music that’s inside them and just not released yet. It’s like what you release and put out there tends to be a few steps behind where you actually are in your life and music. Weird, I know… :)

"...Covered and Created...."

<img style="float: right; “The Everlasting God” is taken from Isaiah 40:25-31.

“Hands Up” is taken from Psalm 63:1-4, 134:2, 47:1, and Revelation 19:1 & 6

A couple of others are based on either the message contained in scripture, or inspired by the story:

“Not Unspeakable” is inspired by the courage and strength of the disciples to continue speaking the name of Jesus even in the face of prison, beating, and death (Acts 5). The song lists many of the names used for Christ in scripture such as Messiah, Emmanuel, Prince of Peace, Light of the World, etc... Another song, “Welcome to a New Day” celebrates the theme of all things being made new in Christ. (Isaiah 43:1-7, 16-19 and 2 Corinthians 5:6-8)

Very intriguing song title "This is How I Worship You" - please share with us how this song came about and what it means to you?

The last full CD of new material that I released was “Worship & Desperation” in 2008. The biggest change for me in that project was that I focused on praise and worship music and how music can be used in services and even personal time with God. That’s a part of me now – music as worship – so I’m pretty sure praise and worship music will continue to be a part of the music that I release as well. “This is How I Worship You” is an example of that. While “Covered and Created” is not a praise and worship CD as a whole, there are definitely a couple of songs on it that are still intended to be worship songs.

Someone recently challenged me with the idea that God doesn’t need “worship” – that if God needed us to worship Him, then wouldn’t that make God selfish and self-centered? But I think the error in that question is that it assumes from the beginning that worship is something we created and are giving to God. I believe worship is a gift from God to us – it’s for us, not for God. When I say, “This is how I worship You” I’m affirming and celebrating that I have exercised my free-will choice to lift up praise and glory to God – not because God needs it or even demands it – but because I love God and enjoy expressing it - even need to express it. Worship is also something that brings people together, which is also something that we need. Corporate worship brings the various creations and images of God in each of us together making the image bigger and dissolving the boundaries that separate us. Worship is just one of the many gifts we receive from God – not because it’s for God, or because God needs it – but because God loves us and knows that we need it.

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>
“The Way I was Made” was originally recorded and co-written by Chris Tomlin, a contemporary Christian artist and worship leader. I like it a lot because the chorus reminds me of this poem:
"Dance as though no one is watching you. Love as though you have never been hurt before. Sing as though no one can hear you. Live as though Heaven is on earth." (Alfred D. Souza)
I would never presume to know what his intentions were in writing the song, so I’m not suggesting or projecting anything here – but as a gay man, there is power in the lyric, “I wanna be the man I was meant to be. I wanna be the way I was made.”
“Orphans of God” is just truly an amazing and powerful song. My partner Brian and our friend Jeremiah Cummings sing the song with me on the CD as a trio. It was originally recorded by the Christian group, “Avalon”. Brian knows some of the history about the song and one of the songwriters – but you’ll have to hear Brian explain it and tell the story himself sometime when we perform it live. Ha! There is a group from Fort Lauderdale called “Shine Ministries” that does sign language interpretive dance and they participated in the concert as well.
If you had only a few minutes to perform one song that would have a great impact on the world today. What song would you sing and why did you choose this song?

People often ask, “What’s your favorite song that you’ve written?” I always have trouble with that question because it’s hard to choose one song, when each original song means something different and is special to me. But a couple of years ago, a woman I had not met before and who had not ever heard of me or any of my music, asked me “Which one of your songs would be the best example of what your ministry is about?” Now that’s a different question. Today, my answer is still the same: “The Christ in You” (from the CD, “Worship & Desperation”). If I had to sum up my faith and any message I hope to convey with one song that I’ve written, it would be “The Christ in You.” The lyrics remind us that in all our trials and conflict, God and Christ are alive in us, and that as Christians we are called to not only reflect the Christ inside of us, but to remind those around us that we see Christ living in them.

Single from Covered and Created - "Hero"

We'll let "Hero" by Shawn Thomas from the "Covered disk" speak for itself - do enjoy!

Shout out time to anyone and everyone that matters most to you. Having a love for music at a very early age, he began to separate himself from his troubled home life. Justin traveled all over the local area singing in churches, with different vocal groups, all before the age of 14.

For Justin, it has been a journey of raw faith, trusting in God, and leading others to Christ. Being able to minister through his experiences of heartache and joy, he has given others the hope that they too, can make it, not just in music, but in life. The biggest blessing in his life is that he knew when to "Surrender" to Christ.
__________________________________________________________

Describe how you entered into the gospel music industry?

I basically grew up surrounded by good gospel music. My family was very involved with the church. I can remember at an early age singing the hymns of the church and hiding their words in my heart. I knew every word to every verse of every hymn I could get my hands on. I grew up watching all the Bill Gaither Homecoming Videos and found comfort in the songs they would sing. I dreamt that someday I would be one of the voices in their homecoming choir. When I was 14, I got the opportunity to sing with the Terry Mike Jeffrey Band. This band was very well known for singing at Elvis Presley functions. I sang on their first Gospel album “Reconciled”. Gospel Music seemed to be a way for me to channel the pain I harbored inside about being different. It was a way to feel accepted. I knew that God loved me at an early age when my childlike faith was at its peak and gospel music was safe for me and reaffirmed that God loved me. I will forever be grateful for the truth’s that I held onto and later clung to when life was at its worst. Even though I will probably never be on a Gaither video, at least not until more things in society or the church change, I have found a community of people and artists who are the real deal and who are making a difference. Being among pioneers like Marsha Stevens-Pino and Rev Delores Berry have helped me see that I am a member of a different homecoming choir that’s changing hearts and lives everywhere.

Please share with us who Justin is as a child of God and what that image looks like?

When I think about being a child of God, I think about having faith like a child, when you were young you were innocent and looked at the world as though nothing would harm you and you knew your parents were there to protect you whenever you were scared or alone. Over the last 13 years I have really depended on God to be a parent and even though there was a time that I didn’t think God could love me because of who I was. I really had to stop and ponder the verse that says “there is Nothing in all of creation that can separate you from the love of God”. Even though my father and family has abandoned me for things in my life he doesn’t approve of I tend to focus now days rather about how God must look at me. God knows where my faults lie, what my insecurities are, and all of the mistakes I have made, yet still chooses to look at the potential and what I have to offer this world and the people around me. I’m sure God smiles and says that is my crazy child that I made just as he is. He is unique and special and there is no one else completely like him. I think God looks at all of us that way, seeking the potential we can have if we will trust with childlike faith knowing that we are confident in ourselves because God loves us exactly as we are because God made us that way.

How have some of the great singers like Porter Wagoner and Dottie Rambo influenced you personally and your music?

All I can say is that I am a very humbled person that God would allow me to have not only worked with these two heroes but also to have called them a friend. I met Porter Wagoner when I first came to Nashville and was working at Sound Control Studio. He would come in to record and I would get him his tea, type up his lyrics, or even make CD copies for him. We would always talk about life and music while waiting for the CD’s to finish copying. One day while he was working on a gospel project with his guitar, he could not seem to remember the lyric to the song. He said, Hey Justin, you sing gospel music don’t you, do you know this song.. come help me with the words. So I sang with him and Porter started to recognize more in me that just the little shy boy from KY who got him his coffee. One day while I was in the studio singing background vocals on one of his album projects he introduced me to one of the musicians as his adopted grandson and that was a special moment to me. He really introduced me to country music, a style with which I was not really fond of and helped me to appreciate the country flair that is apparent in my music today. He was also featured on my Hymn Album Revive Us Again which was an honor for me. I have missed him greatly since he passed away and am lucky to have had the Privilege to have known him. Dottie Rambo was already a hero to me as a songwriter. Dottie Rambo wrote almost any song you flip to in a hymnal these days. It was such an honor to get to know her and to sing on her final album with both she and Porter. She was a person who knew no strangers. Who had been through trials of her own and still survived and accepted everyone with whom she came into contact with. I think that both of these incredible people influenced my life and music a lot. They definitely showed me love and acceptance and for that I will forever be grateful.

What is the most rewarding aspect to the creation of music for you?

The Most rewarding experience for me in creating music is making that emotional connection with the audience. Finding an emotion that is deep within each of us and using the music to connect us in a way that a sermon wouldn’t be able to do. Music is a universal language that comes in many different packages… even though the wrapping of the gift (or style of Music) may appeal on different levels or speak to different people in many ways, the message is ultimately the same. Being able to reach someone through telling your story through music is definitely the most rewarding for me and seeing that people know you are real and can use your God given talents to inspire others.

What is the one message you bring to the world through your music ministry?

One message that I hope to bring out with my ministry is acceptance rather than tolerance. I hope to be a voice for people who have been outcast or feel alone. I have been there myself on so many levels. Being a 17 year old from the Bible belt in rural Western KY and being rejected by my family because of who I am, I can definitely relate to the stories of many people within our community who have experienced rejection. This rejection doesn’t always have to come from friends or family, it can also sometimes come from the church. The message that I hope to bring is that there is a community of support for you. That there are people who accept you just where you are on the journey and more importantly, no matter what anyone says, that God accepts you just as you are because you were made that way. Being tolerant of someone is great I suppose, but my hope is that my music ministry will help put a face on Gay Christians and help us to be accepted by society rather than tolerated. I think we will be able to do that by just being authentic and real. The best way to show someone who you are is to lead by example and even though I’m probably the furthest person from being anywhere near perfect, I hope that people will be able to see the humanity in me and where God has brought me from, with all the heartaches and successes along the way.

Can you please tell us about your “I’ve Been There – Tour” and what it means to you?

The I’ve Been There tour is special and near to my heart simply because I have been there. With LGBT suicide and Bullying at an all time high it is important that we take notice of this issue and help the younger generations know that they are not alone. As I stated earlier I was kicked out by my father at the age of 17. This is a hard time for any young adult to be let loose on the world, let alone starting a new life you know nothing about. So I struggled to find my way as an openly gay man who only wanted a healthy loving relationship. I eventually did find a relationship but it was a physically abusive one and with my age and inexperience I was taken advantage of. I desperately held on because after losing my family it was all that I had left at that young age. I traded off every artistic outlet I had for destructive behavior because the church people had let me know really quick that God couldn’t possibly love me. After I caught my boyfriend cheating I assumed that the church people were right, that this must be my punishment from God for being gay and that if I wasn’t right I needed to change things. So I attempted to take my own life. That would solve the problem since no one really wanted me anyway. I am grateful that I survived through a lot of healing in my life, a lot of life experiences growing up and through meeting a community of accepting Christians I began to get my voice back and have come back full force with a passion to help those who were like me that thought they were forgotten. I’m willing to bet there are more people out there who have been there as well. And I hope through this tour we can all do more to help save some of our Youth who have been “thrown away”.

Please share with us the story behind your song “I’ve Been There”?

The song I’ve Been There is a song written by my adopted Mother Marsha Stevens-Pino. This song talks about meeting people in our lives who have been there and who reach out on a daily basis to others through their pain to let them know that they know what they are going through. The second verse of the song is my favorite because it says:

"So many times I see the tears fill wounded eyes
Someone has thrown them out, the world has told them lies
They feel they are invisible, their hears have grown so hard
Afraid God has abandoned them because of who they are
Jesus how can you reach through such despair
Then I hear you answer, I've Been There"

It has always been a powerful song to me since I released it back in 2006 on my Surrender album. But I don’t think it rings any more powerful than it does today. We all need to band together as a community and share the reality that we have all been there at one time or another. More importantly we serve a Savior who has been there as well and knows the rejection we feel.

What can people expect and take away from a live Justin concert?

People can expect a good time at a Justin Ryan concert. Several different styles of Christian music are covered during the concert. As well as a lot humor and joy. I try to make people laugh with some of the anecdotes from growing up in a southern town. There really were some bizarre things that could have only happened in Paducah. But we also hit on the topic of coming out and finding my way back to the church. And paying tribute to those who have lost their lives too soon through bullying or suicide. At the end of the concert, I always provide a safe place to pray about whatever is on your mind. God is listening and wants nothing more than to love us just as we are. I think a lot of times the church has gotten a bad wrap because of the people who run it. I hope that through this concert series more of our gay youth will find out that there are many churches who provide safe places for them to be who they are and worship the god of their childhood who they were thought couldn’t love them, or maybe they are just discovering God for the first time.

Shout out time. Please give props to anyone and everyone that matters the most to you. Where can people find your music?

Of course I wouldn’t be here without the love of a lot of special people in my life who have continued to be supportive of me and my ministry. I would love to send them a shout out. First of all I would like to thank my fiance, Cody. Without his love and support I wouldn’t be going back on the road again. He truly knows my passion for ministry and I am grateful he puts up with me. I also know that I wouldn’t be where I am without several amazing people in my life. My Adopted Mother Marsha Stevens has taken me under her wing since I was 21 years old and helped bring me back to an audience where my ministry is needed the most. I am truly grateful for her witness and perseverance to keep bringing the good news to, as she says, a community no one else is banging down the doors to get into. Thanks for always being true to who you are. Marsha, I love you. Mark and Donna Moseley are my musical mentors and friends they took me under their wing when I came to Nashville. Mark produces all my albums and Donna has been a great support system for me. I am grateful that God placed them in my life and made them my family of choice. Lastly I’d like to thank my mother Lori Vaughn, she and I have gotten close this last year and I am proud to call her my Mom and am grateful that she is supportive of this important ministry as well. You can get the music (physical CD or digital downloads) on the website www.justinryanonline.com As well as you can purchase the hymn album on Itunes or Amazon. Of course my favorite way for you to purchase the album is at a concert!

To Tune in to Unashamed Faith Cafe -- Click Arrow on Player Below - Sundays 8-9pm Est. Brown

Unashamed Faith Cafe is proud to debut for Charles K. Brown the release of his new video for his single "To Love Again"

With "To Love Again", Charles K. Brown steps into the powerful source of his own creativity. It is a testament to the quality and loveliness that can come out of an artist when they decide to create without support from a label and turn instead to the Divine for all things needed. It doesn’t sound like a basement song. It is without a doubt a beautiful song.

Enjoy the simplicity of the song "To Love Again".

Charles K. Brown also released the CD "Trouble Is...", which is a collection of original songs (and 2 covers) written over the last 35 years. Some of them have been recorded as far back as 1977. He feelsthis album is a definitive representation of my work as a whole. It's like what I might play at a live show, but with many of my talented friends joining me, and big sets and costumes on some of the numbers! Trouble Is... BRAGGS' FIRST SINGLE TO DEBUT ON RADIO May 29, 2011

Unashamed Faith Cafe is very excited to debut for the first time on radio Christian artist Cheryl A. Bragg’s new single “Pour Your Freedom Over Me” it will hit the airwaves on Unashamed Faith Cafe Sunday May 29, 2011 at 8:00 pm EST. Replays Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 12 noon EST. To listen please click "Click here to tune in" above.

The song “Pour Your Freedom Over Me’ began as a request for a jingle but by the aid of the Holy Spirit, transitioned into this song. It’s a mix of Christian singer Cheryl’s contemporary songwriting and her traditional Baptist roots.

The song debuted last week at the People of African Descent Conference in Washington, DC. What folks at the convergence are saying about Cheryl’s first single release.

Mel Martinez - "Pour Your Freedom Over Me" is a groovy, gospel tune sure to inspire listeners to join the movement to bring God's freedom and justice into the world. In performance, singer/songwriter Cheryl Bragg calls up from the depths of her spirit a voice so clear and full that she fills up the room with melody. In concert, this song and singer join forces to enliven an audience to raise their own voices for true freedom, for uncompromising justice, and for the power of a God greater than our understanding to fill us and bring us together as one great and loving community.

Lynnette Owens - The song spoke to me in my personal walk with the Lord; how God is pouring his freedom over me in liberation. It is a awesome production of how God is moving in the MCC organization. Cheryl keep touching Christians with your music God Bless.

Jane Syftefad - "Pour Your Freedom Over Me" is a rousing cheer for liberation of all people, expertly written and arranged by a true champion and musician, Cheryl Bragg... This song will be sung across the country soon!"

Goldie Brown - "Pour Your Freedom Over Me" reaches my spirit that same way that the songs "We Shall Overcome" and "We are the World" does. It sends a message globally that singing and marching hand in hand can change minds and hearts of the opposing masses. It builds solidarity and a common bond. This song will live on until all are free to worship, live, and love. Cheryl's powerful voice demands attention to the lyrics that cannot be forgotten. I am still singing them days later. Tune in this Sunday, May 29, 2011 at 8;00 pm EST and replays on Saturday, June 4 at 12 noon Eastern -- to hear the song "Hero". How to listen -- just click the link above that says "Click here to Tune in".

Openly gay Christian singer Shawn Thomas will release a two-disc collection of songs in July, and the first single is a cover of Mariah Carey’s hit, "Hero."

The song begins, "There’s a hero/ if you look inside your heart / you don’t have to be afraid / of what you are."

It’s a fitting message for Thomas, the author of "Unashamed: Coming Out of the Second Closet" and the artist behind seven previous solo releases and the 14-artist compilation "UP: Unashamed Praise." As an artist, author and speaker, Thomas relentlessly preaches the message of salvation through Jesus Christ and that God loves us as God created us – whether straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered.

Thomas, the son of a preacher, has studied music for more than 20 years, and now writes and produces his own work in addition to producing music for other artists at his studio in south Florida.

The new CD set, "Covered and Created," will feature a full CD of original work (created) and a full CD of cover songs (covered), and is set for release in July.

"Hero" will debut on this Thursday, May 26 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on www.rainbowworldradio.com, and will be played again on Sunday, May 29 at 8 p.m. Eastern and will replay Saturday, June 4 at 12 noon Eastern on www.unashamedfaithcafe.com. The music video – an animated effort that pays homage to Thomas’ status as a huge comic book fan – will be shown for the first time on www.rightouttv.com the week of June 6.

"I’m very excited about this new single and video, and about the upcoming release of ‘Covered and Created,’" Thomas said. "The songs I chose to cover are songs that have meant something to me in my life and in my faith — and a few of them might surprise a few people. The new original songs are more scripturally based than some of what I’ve written in the past, and my hope is that God’s message of love and grace comes through in those lyrics."

It has been three years since the release of Thomas’ last studio effort, "Worship and Desperation." The "UP" compilation was released in February.

Please stay tuned as further details are announced surrounding the up and coming release of "Covered & Created" by Shawn Thomas.

For more information, visit: www.shawnthomasonline.com

<div It celebrates the 10 year anniversary of Shawn’s first CD as an “out” artist appropriately titled “Out in this World”. It contains 17 tracks including 6 new recordings, one of which is a very cool updated version of “Out in this World.” Taken as a whole, these songs do a marvelous job of expanding even further Shawn’s desire to reach across the aisle and appeal to people of every spiritual tribe.

The most prevalent themes can be heard on tracks like “The Christ in You”, “What am I gonna do with You”, which give praises to the purest extent, coupled with skillful word phrasing from Shawn’s poetic playbook. Passionate about what he is doing, the creative process latches onto that passion and things just keep flowing. While his unique voice, along with spiritual influences and stellar lyric, combine to make heads nod and pews shake.

Shawn amalgamates the art of honesty with the beauty of faith brilliantly to create a humble message. Many of his musical compositions are clearly inspired by scripture while others tell personal life stories. “Revisited Vol. 2” is a great example of this -- in that the artist has found new and interesting ways to explore music while incorporating his love for God and that alone is impressive.

It is thrilling to hear an artist, such as this, reach the point in his creative evolution where he can stretch out, try new sounds and ideas without a safety net. In a nutshell -- Shawn has done just that with this compilation. Then when the resulting songs and album turn out to be something great, it’s even better.

This experienced musician has turned out yet another extraordinary CD laden with colourful poetic phrases, clever organic arrangements, and an all around ingenious spirit. With so much raw emotion and poignant phrasing dictating each line, “Revisited Vol. 2” is the pearl in Shawns’ treasure trove of recordings.

Shawn Thomas’s websites:
ShawnThomasOnline.com
AaronsRainbowProject.com

“Revisited Vol. 2” reviewed by Arizzona © 2010

"Out in This World '09" - Shawn Thomas

"Have You Heard This Song?"
Latest single from Shawn Thomas "Out in This World '09"

Such a fun song to swing hips, groove a little or even dance up a storm! They are sure to lift ones soul from the negativity of life in this world, and into the presence of positivity. "Braking The Cycle" strikes from the heart to the very centre of the HIV/AIDS message. Wonderful song!

The last song on the album lets us know that in a world of uncertainty, we ought to remain humble and loving toward ourselves then “Things’ll Get better.”

“I hope those that hear “United For The Ride Vol. 1” will experience healing and a desire to support this very worthwhile cause. His song “No Apologies” gives us the inner most memories and reflections of an artist who walks in the stillness of the universe.

This twelve-song disk is a unique combination of meaningful lyrics; dynamic mix of vocals, melodies and lyrical messages that truly speak on a level that evokes the listener to marinate in the presence of Levis voice and ragtime piano notes.

As you listen to Levi’s album take a moment to notice the colours as the music sets your spirit in motion. “Where I Belong” is the statement of an artist who understand the vast power of music – coupled with the power of – living life to the fullest one musical breath at a time.

Levi has certainly fanned a spark into a flame here. The first thing you hear when listening to "Signature” is a bridge mix of soulful expression. The listener should really take in how the lush textures of the piano: surround Jeffreys’ incredible painted voice and musicianship.

Signature: blends impressively well as an album as opposed to bite-sized single song servings, but if there’s one major standout it’s “Corner of the Sky,”(cover of a Stephen Schwartz song) it exudes tremedous vulnerablity grace and rawness.

If you look into the skies while hearing this album you will be mesmerized. It’s without conceit, laced with structures that are infused with sensitivity and appropriate flights of meditation. Several pieces sound as if they could have come from an avant-garde concert in the park.

In many ways, "Signature” is the perfect, natural step for Jeffrey Wilgus. Had he jumped on the experimental train and let himself run wild with it, the result could have been fleeting. Jeffrey could seemingly conquer the broadway musical world with ease.

The whole project works beautifully. He’s done the right thing here--and is floating on OutVoice Top 40 Charts. The Answer Is Love” by Shawn Thomas is a revealing journey unique unto itself and its essential focus is on healing. What homosexuality is not, why we are worthy and finding a place to overcome, in a peaceful, calm, loving manner.

This book is worth reading for a number of reasons, but among them is just to appreciate the way one can be whole and loving in all types of situations. It is amazing in that it puts the ability to effect change directly into your hand, and finally gives you control over your fears, pain and destructive behaviours in a way you can love again without judgement.

“The Answer Is Love” will lead you directly back to you: the best, holiest, most delightful you, free of fear and filled with light. The most exciting part is that learning to love yourself, to overcome and to love those around you is quite refreshing. The truth revealed herein: is that you are not unwanted or unloved, but rather a divine, Holy Spirit. Once you understand this love, everything will come alive in light, peace and joy.

This is Shawns’ autobiography well perhaps more of a look into what the spiritual soul, and finding what “Love” truly means in a chaotic world. Inevitably love contributes to both individual understanding and spiritual growth.

Shawn always has a way of infusing so much feeling into everything he touches, including his music. It belongs on your reference shelf, to remind you that indeed “The Answer Is Love” which inevitably leads to happiness.

Love is our hero.

"Being Gay.. Then studied with a faculty member at The Juilliard School. “I firmly believe that a person can be taught to sing for a role,” a vocal coach and performer who teaches singing at HB Studio, an acting school in New York and his private studio.

His funky jazz retro-infused music starts with a love of creating from the heart and with Dan there is this strong desire to share the love of story telling, through music, whether it’s in a concert hall or other venue.

His personality lies deep inside the music, yet creating the all-pervasive bed on which the music rests, rich textural melodies mixed with dense and darting harmonies like the theatrical sense you get from his work that stimulates a collective arrangement of spontaneous musical finger paintings.

The songs he creates are narrative and deep sketches, but his type of composition is so vivid that you envision the characters peeking through the showers of notes and phrases that emphasize the music. Fine examples are the songs ”Best Of Intensions” full of picturesque imagery (day dreamy because of the interplay between piano, and vocals) and “Little Red Car” is such a toe-tapping audience grabber.

His collection of songs resonates with organic warmth captivating magical raw vocals that evoke the spirit of the artist and catch listener’s ears. These songs can be heard on his CD’s “Dan Manjovi and Woke Up This Morning.” Sheer brilliance! by Dan Manjovi.

When music takes on this calibre of momentum, seemingly and effortlessly, it’s one of the most uplifting moments an artist can portray, which might be mistaken for indecision but actually it portrays the process of music that is being coaxed out of a mere thought.

Over all Dans’ music is way beyond a peanut butter and jelly blend and lays somewhere’s between can’t get enough and must have it.

Dan Manjovi's website:
DanManjovi.com

Dan Manjovi's work reviewed by Arizzona © 2008

Interview with Connie Hanten

October 20, 2008

Connie please describe how it came about that you started singing Christian music?

My singing started way back in 1980, my Sr. year of high school. My school held a scholarship pageant, in which a talent is preformed. My first time singing a solo was at this event. Waiting back stage, I was scared to death! But confirmation was given to me when I stepped on stage and the fear completely left me. I felt, and still do feel so comfortable on stage singing. Doing Christian music is a conviction I have held to since I received Jesus as my Saviour. I believe that music is a powerful media, and the messages entering our minds will either mold us for good or bad. I choose to sing a message that will give hope to the listeners, and Jesus is that Hope.

Describe how you create a piece of music or an entire song and what it feels likes? Do you play any musical instruments?

Unfortunately, I have no skills at this time in being an instrumentalist. I would love to learn piano, and have a great admiration for people who play.

The music that I do is written by professional Christian performers, I choose songs based on how they have ministered to me, and how they will in turn be of assistance to those in my realm of ministry.

What visions and ideas do you have for your ministry and music?

My vision is as it has always been, to use the events in my life to encourage and reach those who are in need of experiencing a touch from God. You see, I believe singing is more than just singing. I believe that when we lift our praises up to God it is a form of worshipping Him When I sing; I want the anointing power of God to touch every listener, drawing them into His Presence. I want people to leave with hearts changed.

Please tell us some of the highlights and challenges of your career thus far?

One highlight would be the response I received the 1st time I sang at a men’s homeless shelter in St. Louis, Missouri. It is amazing to witness the transformation on ones face as you see God touch a heart. I entered that facility wanting to impart a blessing and walked away having received one.

Challenges, there are many for me. I have had recent health issues, which have interfered at times. Networking and getting known has been a struggle.

Do you have any new things in the works?

Nothing new at this time; however we are in prayer for opportunities, one being able to record a Praise & Worship CD in the near future.

Where can fans find your music and hear you sing live? Please give your final thoughts.

Fans can purchase my debut CD through my website: http://www.conniehanten.com
located on the CD page on the site.

My family and I have recently relocated from St. Louis, Mo to Pennsylvania so I am in the process of establishing this ministry here. Live performances are limited at this time.

Final Thoughts: I want to thank Arizzona and Unashamed Faith Cafe for their interest and involvement with this ministry. My prayer is for this program to be used in a powerful way. May all the artists who are used through Unashamed Faith Cafe be blessed and may this be more than music to listen to, may it be a message to live by.

Connie Hanten website:
Connie Hanten

Interview with Pastor Deanna

October 17, 2008

Describe how you entered the Christian music industry and Pastoral Service?

I never really entered the Christian music industry…when God called me to found SpiritSong Ministries w/ my spouse Jill, it wasn’t really about the music at all. The music was the gift…the vessel that God chose to use to set us on our life mission of “Igniting the world for Christ…one life at a time.” It was the desire to share Jesus and the life-changing message that His forgiveness was for all people, even a lesbian like me, that thrust me into the ministry…and then, I did it the best way I knew how…I sang the message…and thus, SpiritSong Ministries slowly became known as a traveling, musical ministry of hope, healing and reconciliation for all people. RE: pastoral service, the church was the by-product of obedience to follow the call to start SpiritSong Ministries. Usually a church births a para-church ministry…but in my instance, the para-church ministry birthed the church. I couldn’t run away from the eight people who God put around me who kept challenging me to pastor a church…the final confirmation for me came when the local pastors all came together and acknowledged and supported my ordination and encouraged me to follow the call. I did, and now the rest is history. :)

What are the processes and feeling you go through in creating a song?

Most of my songs have been written within an hour (due to divine inspiration). I have not in the past had to sit and toil to produce a song. Although the process is short, I do feel deeply connected to the songs that I am writing…almost like telling a little bit of my life story through every one of them.

How does your spirituality affect your music?

It totally affects my music…totally. The very name of the ministry and church, “SPIRITSONG” was to say, these are the Holy Spirit’s Songs…thus Church of the Holy SpiritSong (Spirit’s Song). I am passionate about Christ. I am passionate about the sacrifice that He made for me. I sing with that passion to say “thank you Lord – I’m giving it all I’ve got because that’s what You did for me.” Music will forever be a part of my life…”IT” – in and of itself, is God’s greatest expression of love to me, and so I return that love to Him through the songs that He gives to me….i guess you could say that for me, there are no songs apart from my spiritual relationship with him.

What dreams do you have for your music and spiritual future?

God is in the process of teaching me patience, but of this one thing I am certain…2009 is the year that I will resume travel/singing on a consistent basis. There was an agreement and understanding with Church of the Holy SpiritSong (COHSS) that when I returned to travelling, they were committing to send one congregant (and pay their expenses) to travel with me and to serve. It would assist me, but it would also offer them the opportunity for an evangelistic use of their own gifts and talents…hopefully it would fuel their commitment to Christ, and they could come back to their home church on fire and spread some of that fire at the home camp J He has also given me the opportunity to found TeachingKids2Play which allows me through private piano and voice lessons to instil that same passion and love of music into children of all ages. There are a few irons in the fire right now, but it would be premature to talk about them at this time. Stay tuned…

What are some of the biggest highlights and challenges of your career thus far?

I don’t see myself having a musical career, as much as I see myself living out a spiritual vocation. The biggest highlights of my life were founding SpriitSong Ministries and Church of the Holy SpiritSong and adopting our gorgeous son, Scott Marcus, (at birth who is now 4.5 yrs old). The biggest challenge of my life was being obedient to return to NJ last year in 2007. It was not something that I wanted to do, but I felt God asked me to…after all, who in their right mind would want to leave a beautifully, thriving, alive-and-on-fire-for-Christ-church filled with people who I had bonded with and loved with all my heart, a very comfortable pastoral package, a built-in network of aunt/uncles to help assist with my son in times of need, and the list goes on. It took me until Feb 08 (from June 07) to go thru the grief process of actually having the leave the church that He asked me to found (and remember, the people are the church). So, I must confess, I still have days that I say, “Gee God, why?” But, I’m not to ask, I’m to trust and as I said, WAIT PATIENTLY WHILE HIS PLAN UNFOLDS.

What is SpiritSong Ministry all about?

Think I answered that already :)

Do you have any new things in the works? Perhaps a new cd or up coming concerts?

Right now I am going to be repressing the old albums so that when I resume travel I will have them available for purchase. I am writing and when that is completed, I will probably take it into the studio…this may be an acoustic recording, not sure yet. RE: upcoming concerts – I haven’t put out the word that I am returning/available, so as of right now there are none booked. But once there are, I promise to share it with you. :)

Where can fans find your music? Please give your final thoughts and thank those that matter the most to you.

Right now, if people are interested in purchasing one of the cd’s, etc. they can just contact me at wepray4you@aol.com. I am in the process of revamping the entire SpiritSong Ministries website, and then they will be available there.

My final thoughts are this: I am grateful to you for the opportunity to share the love, grace, forgiveness, and unconditional love of Jesus Christ through the songs of mine that you air at your station. Keep it up…FAITH COMES BY HEARING….AND HEARING BY THE WORD OF GOD….may we unashamedly continue to share the Good News of the Gospel – any way we can.

Special thanks to Jesus, My Lord, Father God, and my friend Holy Spirit. Thank you Jill for your constant love and support. Thank you mom for always believing in me and helping me each time I am in need. Thank you Malvine (my sister) for coming on board. Thank you everyone at COHSS for letting me go when it was my time to go and faithfully carrying on “Igniting the world for Christ…one life at a time.”®

Unashamed Faith Cafe -- Launches

"Unashamed Faith Cafe" is very proud to present on September 14, 2008 @ 8-9pm EST on QNation.fm the premier airing of the new single "You Are Here Lord" by the very talented, gifted and spiritual songwriter/singer Shawn Thomas.

This will kick off a week long launch for the single "You Are Here Lord" from the new CD "Worship & Desperation" by Shawn Thomas.

***"You Are Here Lord" the new single from "Worship & Desperation" by Shawn Thomas will aire on the following dates on QNation.fm

Sunday, Sept 14, 8-9pm EST Unashamed Faith Cafe
will premier the first single "You Are Here Lord" from the CD "Worship & Desperation" by Shawn Thomas on QNation.fm

Monday, Sept 15, 8-9pm EST on Pride Showcase Box on QNaton.fm

Tuesday, Sept 16, 10-11pm EST on The Music Box and will be available for request! It wasn’t until six or seven years ago that he realized how strong his faith was and began a process of incorporating the Grace and Love of God into his music.

His expression of faith plays out more subtle but with deep heartfelt spiritual messages. From beginning to end “Worship & Desperation” is preciously spiritual--perfectly mastered for Christian enjoyment with a beautiful blend of vocal sounds and congregational participation.

Even producing and production along with Shawn’s infectious smile captures the listeners, including a track called “Sanctus” when performed live includes sign language for the hearing impaired.

The first released track “You Are Here Lord” reveals to us that the Lord is never out of reach, always lifting up our spirits in times of Worship & Desperation. Sung with a joyous heartbeat, which is amazing to experience through Shawn’s warm spiritual vocals and amazing Love for God!

Through out this CD Shawn’s atmospheric praise continually confirms to us, feelings of Love for God in a very well-written and produced album, which will be followed up with a songbook, along with accompaniment audio tracks and video media. These songs are meant to be sung in praise/worship services or listened to when you just need a spiritual pick me up.

Over all it exemplifies and truly embraces God’s unconditional love, Holy presence and devotion in a world that criticizes being gay and Christian in the same sentence.

“Worship & Desperation” is a true musical gift from God through its creator.

Amen!

Shawn Thomas’s websites:
ShawnThomasOnline.com
AaronsRainbowProject.com

"Worship & Desperation" Reviewed by Arizzona © 2008
